Ilene Eisen, a Monterey-based CPA was installed as Chairperson of the State Technology Committee of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CPA’s) at a board meeting on the Hawaiian island of Kauai on June 27.
Eisen was also appointed as Co-Chairperson of the Listserve Taskforce for the board. This taskforce will create the listserve policies and procedures to enable the society to provide members with listserves upon demand. A listserve provides its’ members with a “virtual roundtable discussion” and is planned to be operational by August 1999.
“By signing up for a listserve, members can send e-mail to the listserve, which then forwards messages to all participants on the list,” said Eisen. “This allows members to speak freely and without limits on various topics. The advantage of this technology is that individuals do not have to meet face-to-face to disseminate information, solve problems or have a discussion. Participants like the format because everyone can say as much as they like without interrupting or time limits.
Discussions occur simultaneously as members speak up on new issues within the listserve identified field of discussion.”
The annual California CPA meeting consisted of 12 hours of continuing education as well as a two day board meeting. Eisen is a local CPA who limits her practice to accounting software consulting. She specializes in working with MAS90, Business Works, and QuickBooks. She performs installations, on-going support, software consulting, seminars and training.
